Black Friday at Galisteo Basin Preserve

As usual, we were closed on the day after Thanksgiving (AKA Black Friday, in case you didn't know).  It's kind of a gross day of consumerism that we can't get behind, even though we are capitalist pigs who shove consumer goods you don't want down your throat every day.

So, we went for a bike ride instead of working.  This year we got a small crew together and headed to the Galisteo Basin Preserve to try and sweat off some turkey.

If you haven't heard of Galisteo Basin, it's a cool little area outside of Eldorado, which is outside of Santa Fe.  There was something to do about a requirement that trails be built if houses were going to get built.  The trails got built, no houses have really popped up, and the result is a bunch of nice trails stuck out in the middle of nothing.  Here's the website....

They are real fun trails that are sometimes rideable in the winter when other trails are muddy.  We didn't have any fun at all..

Conveniently, Santa Fe Brewing opened a tap room just a couple miles away from these trails in a shopping center in Eldorado.  And supposedly you can ride dirt from the tap room to these trails, but we didn't have the local knowledge on that one.  We hit up the tap room post ride, but they weren't open yet, so we moved on to my Pop's house for some backyard drinking.

And that's pretty much how the day went.  Hope all of you had a nice Thanksgiving!

  1. I love Galisteo Preserve! Riding dirt (mostly) from the preserve to the is sweet, though not self explanatory. Keep heading towards the "New Moon Overlook" till you hit the rail trail, then head North West to Eldorado.

Thank You for your Black Friday Boycott! And Happy New Awesome Bike Rides Year!
